The Windows 2000® operating system does not support USB composite devices, like Raritan’s D2CIM-VUSB, in the same manner as non-composite USB devices.
As a result, the “Safely Remove Hardware” system tray icon does not appear for drives mapped by the D2CIM-VUSB and a warning message may appear when disconnecting the device. Raritan has not observed any problems or issues from this message, however.
Raritan’s US engineering department has developed a configuration which supports the “Safely Remove Hardware” icon and avoids this Windows message. This configuration requires the use of the D2CIM-DVUSB virtual media adapter and the Troubleshooting 3 USB Profile that configures the D2CIM-DVUSB as a non-composite USB device supporting a single virtual media connection. Raritan has successfully tested this configuration in the US and Japan.
