Strong Passwords

Strong passwords provide more secure local authentication for the system. Using strong passwords, you can specify the format of valid Dominion KSX local passwords such as minimum and maximum length, required characters, and password history retention.

Strong passwords require user-created passwords to have a minimum of 8 characters with at least one alphabetical character and one nonalphabetical character (punctuation character or number). In addition, the first four characters of the password and the user name cannot match.

When selected, strong password rules are enforced. Users with passwords not meeting strong password criteria will automatically be required to change their password on their next login. When deselected, only the standard format validation is enforced. When selected, the following fields are enabled and required:

Description

Minimum length of strong password

Passwords must be at least 8 characters long. The default is 8, but it can be up to 63.

Maximum length of strong password

The default is 16, but can be up to 64 characters long.

Enforce at least one lower case character

When checked, at least one lower case character is required in the password.

Enforce at least one upper case character

When checked, at least one upper case character is required in the password.

Enforce at least one numeric character

When checked, at least one numeric character is required in the password.

Enforce at least one printable special character

When checked, at least one special character (printable) is required in the password.

Number of restricted passwords based on history

This field represents the password history depth. That is, the number of prior passwords that cannot be repeated. The range is 1-12 and the default is 5.
